Kimberly & Melissa's Letterpress Invitation Suite

Kimberly and Melissa were a fabulous couple who booked our services after falling in love with Francesca's letterpress work. As they would be having their wedding ceremony in New York City and their reception at Power Plant Productions the following day, we helped them stay within budget by suggesting their reception invitation and reply card be done using letterpress and their ceremony invitation and reply card be printed digitally.

The letterpress invitation suite used a striking, bold type-face while the ink color used was grey. Their color palette included blue and pink, and these were utilized as accent colors in their ceremony invitation set. But there was one other place the pop of pink was used: Kim and Melissa asked that the letterpress invitation be edge painted with pink! (Pictures can't do the edge painting justice, you'll just have to drop by and see us to see it in person!)

Kim and Melissa would request that the same type-face and color palette be carried through the rest of their wedding stationery and design work. Their digitally printed ceremony program was two-sided and featured the wedding party on one side and the ceremony program itself on the other.

Finally, this style, color palette, and type-face was carried through onto their photo booth footer as well as their thank you card sets.

We had a fantastic time working with Kimberly and Melissa on their wedding invitation suite! We wish them both the best on their new life together :)

Stacey and David's Rustic Wedding in Chadds Ford

Stacey found her way to Little Woman Design looking for a rustic wedding invitation suite that would do the wedding she was planning at The Gables at Chadds Ford justice. She knew that she would need several different pieces, and wanted to go with a Kraft paper pocketfold that we would overlay with lace.

The design elements Francesca created were carried through each piece of the wedding invitation suite.

For their seating cards, Stacey wanted a business card sized card that appeared to have burnt edges. Every corner of the card was then subsequently punched to create a patterned edge. These cards were then placed into corks that Stacey and David had cut.

Congratulations to Stacey and David! We had a tremendous time working with you both. And, thanks to our good friends at BG Productions who photographed their wedding and supplied us with these fantastic photos of our work.

Introducing… Little Woman Design!

Little Woman Design Video from Little Woman Design on Vimeo.

Videography by BG Productions

As we approach our one year anniversary of opening Little Woman Design, we are constantly looking at ways to not only expand our products and services, but also promote ourselves as well! We have many things in the works for the next six months that we will be able to share soon enough, but what we are most excited to share with you today is a video properly introducing ourselves as well as showcasing some of our portfolio!

When we opened our website, our About page was lacking photographs of ourselves! Sure there were biographies of Francesca and me, but we wanted people to be able to put a face to the names! Enter our good friends at BG Productions!

Cathie and Al are the husband and wife team who own and run BG Productions – a fantastic photography/videography team! We met Cat and Al when we were shopping photographers and videographers for our own wedding. Sitting there in the Starbucks across from these amazingly talented professionals, we clicked immediately with their personalities and style and hired them on the spot for our wedding! And, from many of the photos that you have seen on our very site, you can see the art and craft that Cathie brings to her photographs, bringing our work to life on the screen.

When it came time to have professional headshots done, we turned to Cathie and Al! In speaking with them about having headshots, we also began to talk about having a video produced. One that would properly introduce us to the guests who visit our website. One that would tell the story of Little Woman Design. And, one that would properly showcase my amazing wife's talents.

On Thursday, July 19, 2012, Francesca and I nervously became the stars of our own video. It now adorns the home page of our website, and can also be seen at the top of this very blog! We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it!

Let us know what you think by leaving a comment below!

Special thanks to Genevieve Scoleri from Glamour Me Fabulous Make-up for providing Francesca's hair and make-up services, and Laura Eaton of Soiree Philadelphia for allowing us to film in the space. Most importantly, thank you to BG Productions! You guys rock, and we can't thank you enough:)

Little Woman Design is approved as a Green Bride Guide green wedding vendor

Philadelphia, PA; April 4, 2012 – Little Woman Design, a full-service graphic design studio specializing in wedding and event stationery, has been selected by the Green Bride Guide, the #1 green wedding website, for inclusion in their Green Wedding Directory (www.greenbrideguide.com/directory).

The Green Bride Guide is the most comprehensive and credible green wedding resource online. The Directory is like a Yellow Pages for green weddings that provides a centralized resource of green wedding vendors, searchable by geographic area.

This year, almost 50% of couples are looking to include green elements in their events, and 85% are concerned about greenwashing, the passing off of non-green companies as eco-friendly. To address these concerns, the Green Bride Guides screens all vendors in the directory and displays their green practices in their profiles.  Little Woman Design received a five leaf rating from the Green Bride Guide.

Little Woman Design opened in 2011 and has been working with couples in the Greater Philadelphia Area to realize not only their wedding stationery but also any custom designed elements of their wedding.

Francesca Staffieri, owner and principal designer of Little Woman Design, said “It is the hope that Little Woman Design can introduce couples to the idea that they can have the wedding stationery suite of their dreams while minimizing environmental impact.”

“When my husband Barry and I were planning our wedding in 2006-07, we were surprised by how little information was available to help us make eco-friendly choices. That’s why I’m excited to be able to offer couple the Green Bride Guide Directory,” said Kate Harrison.  “By including vendors like Little Woman Design, couples will know that they are working with vetted green vendors who truly value the environment. Since more than 50% of the wedding budget is spent at the local level, the Directory is an essential tool for couples looking to support the local green economy.”

There's a System for Everything …

When it comes time to plan the overall style of your wedding, one thing to consider is how consistent you want all of your pre-wedding and wedding day stationery to look. Do you have a theme that you would like to see carried through each piece? How would you like your wedding color palette incorporated?

When meeting with your designer, it's a good idea to discuss this from the outset. For our own wedding stationery, we decided upon a modern-traditional approach to our wedding invitation set utilizing our color palette throughout. And, for the vast majority of our pre-wedding and wedding day stationery we decided upon letterpress printing.

As we have previously discussed, lettepress is an old printing method that has experienced a revival. Our wedding invitation set was printed on 100% cotton paper, the standard for letterpress printing. The heavy weight and soft texture gives the paper character.

We created a system by which our entire wedding stationery matched. Names and words that were to be highlighted were done so using the color orange, while our other main wedding color—gray—was used for the majority of the typography.

Our ceremony program was a folded card with four sides. The front of the program simply stated our wedding date, venue, and our names.

The inside cover featured the names of our wedding party, while the program itself listed each part of our ceremony along with the accompanying music. The back of the program left us with enough space to thank our family and friends for attending our wedding.

The system we had devised did not end with our wedding stationery! We incorporated the typography and color palette throughout our wedding day collateral. Everything from our cocktail napkins to our table numbers featured the same design elements giving our entire day a consistent look and feel that really resonated with our guests!

And finally! We thanked our guests in the same manner as we had invited them! With a letterpress printed thank you card, blank on the inside, giving us enough space to thank each and every guest for the gift of their presence on our wedding day!
